Title: Thermography as a possible introduction to in-depth studies of traditional Qigong
Biography:
Edith Guba heads the Dao Yuan School for Qigong, which she founded in Germany together with her teacher, the Chinese Qigong Master Guo Bingsen. The aim of the school is the dissemination of traditional Chinese Qigong methods at a level that can maintain their traditional quality. In their close collaboration, Guo Bingsen and Edith Guba have also translated the Dao De Jing, a fundamental work of Chinese philosophy, into French and German.
Abstract:
The problem is that we have exercises that we appreciate very much, that do us good and that we don't want to miss anymore, but the effects that they bring us are difficult to communicate. Even for ourselves they are not always easy to understand, as they go far beyond our everyday minds and want to be integrated into our world view. If you don't practice these forms of qigong, you will think that we are exaggerating. Beginners often ask me when they make new experiences: "Is that really true - or is it just imagining it now? Qigong research: For several decades now, various studies have been conducted into the effects of qigong. They can generally be divided into two groups: 1. research that is based only on western scientific standards, and 2. research that takes classical Chinese philosophy into consideration. For us it is currently like a game: we are pleased that thermal changes during practice, which are difficult to communicate to outsiders, but are our own everyday experience, can be depicted so harmoniously in these images. The pictures were taken with a Flir Cxxx, actually a craftsman's utensil; these are the first experiments with this method, in which Qi is usually emitted from a distance of approx. 1 meter to a point at the foot of the receiver. Results: The temperature changes during the Qi emission were about 5-6°C within a few minutes. Sometimes the display of the camera showed how cold was being discharged, which was also felt by the Qi receivers. The body temperature also changed during practice. Conclusion & outlook: These pictures have primary heuristic value for the students of the Dao Yuan School. Further investigations suggest interesting results on the properties and possibilities of Qi and also on those of the human body if it is trained accordingly.
